Howling & Hiking With Zeke & Tom

Join Us on a 500-Mile Journey to Support Nellie’s Schoolhouse & Highlight Autism Awareness

Tom Richards, Executive Director of Nellie’s Schoolhouse, and his golden retriever Zeke are embarking on a 500-mile trek to raise money for the organization. Tom & Zeke attempted to reach 1,000 miles last year, but the journey was cut short because Tom had to unexpectedly get back surgery.

This year, Tom and Zeke plan to walk 500 miles from April until September – to honor Autism Awareness Month in April and to raise money for Nellie’s Schoolhouse and The Talk School. Each step they take will help and affirm the children and families who participate in Nellie’s Schoolhouse.

15% of the proceeds will be donated to The Talk School, while the rest will be for Nellie’s Schoolhouse. Our goal is to reach $10,000.

About The Talk School

Located in Newtown Square, the Talk School is the nation’s most progressive center for the education of children with autism and speech/language disorders. Their teachers, therapists and researchers are at the forefront of a new more accurate and person-centered understanding of autism – one that presents autism as a sensory-based movement disorder profoundly affecting language, social interaction and praxis. The Talk School provides intensive occupational and speech therapy to support a fuil-day systematic, multisensory, language-based curriculum.

Where Can You Walk With Us?

Each week Zeke and Tom will be exploring new hikes and new places, and they invite you to join them, either solo, with friends or with your dog. We will inform you each week where and when we are going with our hikes anywhere between 2 and 6 miles. Check our Facebook page for the latest updates.

Our first walk was Saturday, May 4th at Ockehocking Preserve in Newtown Square. The entrance to the preserve is off of Delchester Rd.
Our 2nd walk was Saturday, June 1st at Valley Forge Park. We met at the Knox Parking Lot off of Valley Creek Rd and enjoyed a beautiful walk to the tops of Mt. Joy and Mt. Misery.
Our 3rd walk will be Saturday, June 29th at 8:30am at Valley Forge Park. We will meet at the parking lot behind the Memorial Arch. Come join Tom and Zeke with or without your canine companion. The hike is a little more than 4 miles. We hope to see you there! Please RSVP if you plan to attend by emailing Tom Richards.
